Google Apps for Education (GAFE) can be used to display graphic presentations, ie. graphs, of student progress. Posting these charts and graphs on secure Google Sites pages could be a good way for parents to stay up to date on student progress.
According to a teacher's statement on the Google Training Center website, "Private Google Sites have become our way to share information with parents and students. We set up the sharing permissions on the Site so that each parent can only see the page for their child. I use the filter function to create a sheet for each student. It’s pretty cool because there are graphs reporting their performance. With Google Sites I can embed charts that track their grades. Parents love keeping track of their child’s progress. The charts are also automatically updated every time a new grade is recorded."
COOL TRICK: When Google Docs, sheets, etc. are embedded into websites such as Google Sites and Wikispaces, all changes made to the docs, etc. are updated on the websites automatically. (Sometimes a refresh of the website is necessary, but no editing the website is needed!)
To learn how to embed Google Drive files, visit this page on Google Support.
NOTE: You can also embed a specific Google Calendar in your Google Site, or other website, and updates will be made automatically.
The video below show how to create a spreadsheet, create charts and graphs with the data in the sheet, and the embed that sheet into a Google Site.
